Turkey’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, has been fined after posting a video of himself driving on social media.

On Sunday evening, the minister shared a video on X, formerly Twitter, with the hashtag #TurkeyAccelerates, showing himself driving along the Ankara-Niğde highway while listening to Turkish folk songs and clips of speeches by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

In multiple shots, the car’s speedometer was visible, revealing that Uraloglu was driving at speeds between 190 and 225 kilometres per hour (118 to 140 mph), well above the legal speed limit of 140 kph (85 mph).

Hours later, Uraloglu reposted the footage, admitting he had effectively “turned himself in.”

“I took to the wheel to check the Ankara-Niğde highway and unintentionally exceeded the speed limit for a short period. With the video I effectively denounced myself,” he wrote.

The minister also shared a copy of the penalty notice, confirming he had been clocked at 225 kph and fined 9,267 Turkish lira ($225).

In a follow-up post, he pledged to exercise caution going forward, “I will be much more careful from now on. Sticking to the speed limit is mandatory for everyone.”
