In a move aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), 49 deputy directors have been promoted to director roles across various departments, transitioning from Grade Level 16 to 17.

This decision came after the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, approved the results of the inaugural Computer-Based Promotion Examination conducted at the National Open University Dutse-Alhaji Study Centre in Bwari on August 12, 2025.

The promotion examination was conducted to clear the backlog of promotion arrears from 2023 to 2025 for workers on Grade Level 16.

According to a statement on Tuesday from the senior special assistant on public communications and social media to the FCT minister, Lere Olayinka, the chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Eze, said that the promoted deputy directors will fill 49 of the 63 vacancies declared in various departments.

“Out of the 49 promoted, the education officer cadre had the highest number with 20, followed by the accountant cadre with nine.

“While civil engineer, social welfare, tourism, fisheries, and medical officer cadres had one vacancy and one eligible officer each, the education officer cadre had 820 eligible officers for 20 vacancies, while Admin had 12 eligible officers for 10.

“Recall that to ensure transparency and a promotion exercise devoid of any form of pressure and influence, the FCT minister directed the Civil Service Commission to adopt the most technology-driven methodology in the promotion examination,” the statement reads.

Olayinka further stated that the minister consequently approved the Civil Service Commission’s request to adopt a computer-based test (CBT) model for conducting the promotion exercise.

He added that the commission’s Board of Examiners set a minimum pass mark of 60 per cent to ensure the examination complies with the CBT model and reduce delays associated with the release of examination results.
