The inspector-general of police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, will speak on the impact of ‘Cattle Theft in West Africa’ at the ongoing 27th INTERPOL African regional conference in South Africa.
The conference, which began on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, will provide a platform to strengthen international cooperation against transnational crime and enhance global law enforcement collaboration.
The 27th INTERPOL African Regional Conference drew more than 200 police chiefs and security leaders from 56 countries, including senior law enforcement officials and security experts across Africa and beyond.
Nigeria Police Force (NPF) PRO, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Wednesday, said the IGP will, in his presentation, address discussions on contemporary security challenges, intelligence-sharing mechanisms, and practical strategies for cross-border policing.
Adejobi noted that the IGP’s presentation, titled “Cattle Theft in West Africa: A Conduit for Terrorism and CBRNE Threats”, would highlight the wider security implications of organised livestock theft in the region.
The IGP is expected to address the connection between “transnational organised crime, terrorism financing, and emerging chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive (CBRNE) threats within the sub-region.”
Meanwhile, the IGP is also scheduled to meet with the INTERPOL president, Major General Naser Alraisi, and the INTERPOL secretary general, Mr Valdecy Urquiza, on the sideline of the conference to discuss partnerships, among others
The IGP’s meetings will focus on “consolidating operational partnerships, deepening intelligence exchange, strengthening mutual legal assistance, and reinforcing Nigeria’s strong commitment to regional and global security cooperation.”
