Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested five suspects for alleged involvement in motorcycle theft and trafficking of cannabis sativa.
In a statement on Thursday, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Wakil said the arrests followed actionable intelligence received on January 27, 2025, from a Good Samaritan.
According to Wakil, the intelligence led to the arrest of a 20-year-old Abdulhamid Auwal a.k.a. Wala and Aliyu Rabiu alias Hitler also 20 years who were both residents of Bakaro area in Bauchi metropolis.
They were suspected to be part of a specialised motorcycle theft syndicate.
The PPRO explained that detectives, led by the Divisional Police Officer of A Division, CSP Musa Alhaji Hassan launched an intelligence-led operation which resulted in the arrest of the suspects.
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to conspiring with three other accomplices to break into the residence of one Baba Karami in Unguwar Sarkin Kofa in Bauchi, where they stole a Bajaj motorcycle.
“The stolen bike was later dismantled, packed in a sack, and sold,” Wakil said.
The police image maker said preliminary investigations revealed that the gang specialises in motorcycle theft within the Bakaro axis.
Other identified members of the syndicate include Mahmood Mahmood, alias Ankula, and one Ganiya, both residents of Bakaro.
Wakil added that efforts were ongoing to track down the remaining suspects, after which all will be profiled and prosecuted.
In a related operation on August 23, 2025, operatives of the Command’s Rapid Response Squad, led by CSP Suleiman Tambuwal, arrested three other suspects during a visibility patrol at Wuntin Dada area of Bauchi.
The suspects, identified as Hussaini Lawal (20), Baba Sadiq Ibrahim (18), and Wada Yusuf (21), were caught distributing dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa inside an uncompleted building near Aso Rock Mountain at Wuntin Dada.
“Upon interrogation, Hussaini confessed to engaging in cannabis trafficking for over a year and provided details about his associates,” Wakil added.
Items recovered from the suspects include half a block of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, six knives, two pairs of scissors, four lighters, a container of tobacco leaves (Taba), and a bunker.
The Command assured residents of its commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven policing to rid Bauchi State of criminal activities.
