Police Arrest Suspected Cultist For Alleged Rape In Akwa Ibom

Operatives of anti-cult of the Akwa Ibom State Police have arrested a notorious cult and armed robbery suspect for allegedly attempting to defile a teenager.

Police also recovered a locally-fabricated gun with one live cartridge from the suspect.

Spokesperson of Akwa Ibom Police Command, DSP Timfon John who disclosed on Saturday in Uyo, said the suspect, a 26-year-old Happiness Alphonsus Iseyen from Ini local government area of the state has been apprehended and undergoing interrogation.

“On August 28, 2025, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command arrested a suspect linked to a case of defilement and armed robbery in the State.

“Following a tip-off received on August 27, 2025, from a concerned citizen, detectives were able to track and apprehend the suspect, Happiness Alphonsus Iseyen, a 26-year-old male from Ini LGA.

“The arrest was made at approximately 13:40 hours. Upon a search of the suspect, a locally-made pistol and one cartridge were recovered from his possession,” DSP John said.

She added that the Command was conducting a discreet investigation to arrest other members of the gang and recover their operational weapons.

The Command reassured the public of its commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents and urged the citizens to cooperate continually with the Police by providing timely and credible information.
