The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Plateau State has concluded a peer review tour of the state’s 17 local government councils while also endorsing Governor Caleb Mutfwang for re-election in 2027.
The tour, led by its chairman, Hon. Hamisu Anani, was aimed at assessing the state of governance, reviewing the execution of local projects and fostering unity across the councils.
According to him, the tour which was one of the first of its kind in Plateau State provided an opportunity for local government chairmen to interact directly with the grassroots, meet with constituents and inspect major development projects, including roads, police stations, hospitals, youth centers and other vital projects.
It was also a chance to gauge the execution of governance at the grassroots level. The tour allowed the ALGON executives to visit several ongoing and completed projects across the local councils, including the Snakebite Treatment Hospital, Youth Centers, Staff Quarters and new Local Government Secretariat buildings.
In addition to health and infrastructure projects, the tour focused on schools, markets, and renovations of traditional palaces.
Hon. Anani while speaking at the close of the tour, described the exercise as historic, stating, “This review has not only allowed us to assess projects but also to engage with the people directly and understand the impact of these developments. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and it’s clear that the people appreciate the progress under Governor Mutfwang’s leadership.”
