Leaders of Itsekiri Ethnic Nationality in Delta State have alleged an attempt by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to rob them in the proposed delineation of wards and polling units in the Warri federal constituency.
They spoke at a press conference broadcast live on National Televisions, where they accused INEC of bias in allocating wards and polling units outside Delta State to the Ijaw and Urhobo in the delineation.
A communique at the end of the press conference held in Preston Royal Event Centre, Warri, Warri South local government area yesterday, and presented by Chief Brown Mene on behalf of Itsekiri Ethnic Nationality, noted that the people were not against the Supreme Court judgement but they want fairness, equity, and justice from INEC in this regard.
According to the communique, much bias and illegality are associated with the execution of the said judgment, which revealed that, going by the coordinates, the polling units and wards created by INEC do not correspond with the actual location on the ground.
In the communique, Itsekiri Ethnic Nationality called on the federal government to set up an independent commission of inquiry to prove that INEC’s action on the redelineation exercise created fathom polling units and wards in the federal constituency.
Part of the communique reads:” As law-abiding citizens, we are not against the execution of Supreme Court order on the redelineation of Warri Federal Constituency Polling Units, Wards, we demand fairness, equity and justice from INEC”
“We reject the April 4, 2025 proposal on Polling Units and wards delineation in its entirety”.
In the communique, the people also demand that any officer found wanting in the entire exercise be disciplined after a thorough investigation to serve as a deterrent to others.
