Methodist Church Nigeria (MCN) has proposed to establish a university at Umuimenyi, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.
Prelate of the MCN, Oliver Abah, stated this when he led a delegation of archbishops and bishops on an advocacy visit to the state governor, Alex Otti, at Nvosi, his country home.
He said the proposal is in continuation of the MCN’s pioneering role in educational, health, and social welfare institutions in the country.
Commending the governor for his records of achievements, the number one Methodist in the country described him as “a capacity governor elected by God and the people.”
The clergyman, who prayed for Otti’s continued successes, said the issue of land for the proposed university is yet to be settled and appealed for the government’s assistance.
In response, the governor directed his Deputy Chief of Staff, Chijioke Nwankwo, to resolve the issue as soon as possible to ensure immediate take-off of the project.
Explaining that the government had commenced building a road to the site of the proposed university, he assured the MCN of the government’s support for the project.
According to the governor: *”We are very happy about the proposal and can assure you that any support that we can give, we will not withhold.
There is no doubt that the church has been a pioneer in missionary activities in the country and of course the health and education sectors.
It will be our pleasure to support you and partner with you in the establishment of this university.”
