The Dangote Group has distanced itself from two fatal accidents that occurred in Enugu State on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, clarifying that its trucks were not involved in the incidents.

In a press statement released on Thursday, the company said investigations by the Enugu State Police Command confirmed that the trucks responsible belonged to Visco Investment Global and Global Investment, respectively, and not Dangote Group.

Quoting the official police account, the statement highlighted details of the first crash, “The first incident, a multiple-vehicle crash, happened at about 9 a.m. on the Enugu inward-bound lane. A Howo truck, inscribed Visco Investment Global and laden with bags of white cement, was en route Abuja from Aba, Abia State, when it collided with a Toyota Corolla car that was attempting to overtake another truck on the same route. A Foton bus and a Daihatsu Hijet mini bus, both driving one-way, were also caught in the collision. Sadly, the truck head and the Toyota Corolla car went up in flames, with five occupants of the car burning to death. A passenger in the mini bus was equally confirmed dead by the attending medical doctor.”

The police also described the second incident, which occurred later the same day, “At about 3 p.m. on the same road, another fatal crash occurred. This time, it involved a Sino truck belonging to Global Investment and a tricycle. The truck, laden with cement and driving one-way from Garriki Enugu to Nenwe in Aninri LGA, on the same Enugu inward-bound lane, rammed into the tricycle, leading to the death of its four occupants. They were rushed to the hospital but later confirmed dead.”

The company expressed condolences to the victims and their families, while strongly condemning what it called the “increasing spread of misinformation” falsely linking Dangote trucks to the accidents.

“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the victims of these tragic incidents and their families,” the statement read. “We urge the public and media to refrain from circulating unverified claims.”

Dangote Group further warned truckers against the unauthorised use of its brand identity, noting that some drivers have previously been caught using the company’s logo without permission.

“We have repeatedly cautioned truckers to desist from using our logo on their trucks. Moving forward, we will apply increased scrutiny and pursue legal action against the unauthorised use of our brand identity, particularly the misuse of our logo on vehicles not affiliated with the Group,” the statement added.

The clarification came amid widespread reports on social media linking the Dangote brand to the latest Enugu crashes, both of which claimed several lives.
