Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has called on those aspiring to contest for political positions in the State to wait until the legally appointed time before commencing their campaigns.

Governor Sule said it was wrong for politicians to needlessly heat up the polity with campaigns over elections that were two years away.

The Governor gave the caution through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Peter Ahemba, at a monthly press briefing in Lafia, the state capital on Thursday.

He explained that there were laid down regulations concerning the electoral system, including stipulation of the time for campaign.

Sule maintained that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has specified timetable indicating all processes leading to the elections.

He added that it was wrong for political actors to jump the gun before the commencement of INEC process.

The governor pointed out that the ongoing social media war by loyalists of certain politicians were overheating the polity, describing it as worrisome.

On the emerging security threats in some parts of the state, Governor Sule said the state government was taking measures to address the challenges.

According to him, part of the measures include the deployment of modern technology and gadgets in dealing with the threats.

He also explained that security agencies will be further empowered with additional logistics, while collaboration with traditional rulers and youth leaders were being intensified.

The Nasarawa State governor stressed that government has also strengthened security presence at various borders with neighbouring states to avert infiltration by criminal elements.
