The inspector-general of police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has lauded the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) for awarding scholarships to the children of fallen heroes. He said the gesture would preserve the legacies of the nation’s security operatives and promote national unity.
Egbetokun spoke when he received the president of DEPOWA, Mrs. Oghogho Musa and other members of the association at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Mrs. Musa told the police chief that the scholarship scheme would start with the inauguration of the DEPOWA Future Leaders Academy in September 2026.

She said the project was designed to support the children of fallen military and police personnel and foster cohesion by accommodating children from surrounding communities.
Mrs. Musa applauded police officers for their sacrifices in combating violent crimes and contributing to international peacekeeping and expressed appreciation to the IGP for his leadership style.

In his response, Egbetokun reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to its constitutional mandate of protecting life and property, maintaining public order, and safeguarding democracy.
