Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria has announced a programme of activities to celebrate its 70th anniversary and 70th annual national convention slated to commence this month and run through October.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, the general overseer, Rev. Dr. Sam Aboyeji, said the milestone marked seven decades of God’s amazing grace and faithfulness since the church was established in the country in 1955 by American missionaries, Rev. Harold and Mrs. Faye Curtis.

According to the church, from a modest beginning at Yankee Bar, Yaba, Lagos, it has grown to over 5,000 branches across Nigeria and spread to several African countries including Ghana, Liberia, Togo, Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea.

Highlighting the anniversary programme, Aboyeji announced that the 12th annual public lecture would hold on Wednesday, September 17 at The Marquee, Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos. The theme of the lecture is “Poverty Alleviation, Economic Development and Stability of the Nigerian Economy.”

The event will be chaired by the governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, while the keynote lecture will be delivered by Dr. Doyin Salami, a senior fellow at the Lagos Business School. Panelists include Pastor Ben Akabueze, Mrs. Ini Abimbola and Dr. Otive Igbuzor.

Aboyeji noted the choice of topic reflects the church’s commitment to nation-building, describing poverty as not merely a social issue but a critical economic imperative requiring structural reforms and inclusive policies.

As part of the jubilee celebration, the church will host Holy Spirit Refreshing Dew, a special evangelistic outreach on October 1 at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.

The programme, he said, would feature a praise extravaganza with guest artists and ministers.

The activities will culminate in the 70th annual national convention scheduled for October 6–12 at the Foursquare Campground, Ajebo, Ogun State. The convention themed, “Completion and Perfection” (Leviticus 25:13; Psalm 138:8), will feature prominent church leaders, including Pastor E. A. Adeboye, Bishop David Oyedepo, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, and the International President of the Foursquare Gospel Church, Rev. Randy Remington.

The General Overseer also extended Independence Day greetings to Nigerians, urging citizens to remain hopeful despite challenges. “We are confident and trust the Almighty God for a new Nigeria that we all will be proud of,” he said.
