The corpse of a 3-year-old baby, Haneefa, who was flooded by water, has been recovered in Zaria, Kaduna state.
Haneefa went missing after a heavy downpour, which resulted in a flood sweeping away her siblings in Tudun Jukun, Zaria.
A statement issued by Abdulmumin Adamu DS Zaria division of Nigerian Red Cross Society said, “On 14th September, 2025, at approximately 11:00am, the remains of Haneefa were discovered at Gangaren Kasan Killaco, Gyallesu, Zaria.
“This recovery concludes the search and confirms that all the flood victims have been accounted for.”
Recall that on 8th September, 2025, heavy rainfall resulted in severe flooding at Tudun Jukun, Tukur Tukur Ward, in Zaria, which led to the death of 2 students, Fatima Sani Danmarke, a student of the School of Basic and Remedial Studies, Funtua and Yusuf Surajo, known as Abba.
Haneefa, a 3-year-old baby, has been backed by her sister Fatima since the incident.
Confirming the recovery, Haneefa’s grandfather, Mallam Suleiman of Layin Adamu Mai Aljana, said it was recovered and brought back on Sunday afternoon.
Suleiman, who said Haneefa’s father, Sunusi, left for Umrah (lesser Hajj) on Friday, confirmed that the father was around when the incident occurred.
“I was called around 12 noon and informed that Haneefa’s body had been recovered. So I rushed home to discover the story is true.
“We then organised for the funeral prayer and subsequent burial of the deceased at about 1 pm. Remember that we had earlier performed Salatul Gaib prayer (prayer for an undiscovered corpse) after magrib prayers at the Isa cikon kwami mosque in Magume,” he explained.
Suleiman prayed for those who assisted the family during their trying moment and appreciated all who contributed to the recovery of his daughters.
