Deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has called on Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s implementation of various economic reforms.

Kalu urged the people to support the reserved seats bill before the national assembly.

The deputy speaker made the appeals when he met with the 2025/2026 Cohort of Nigerians at the Harvard Kennedy School in the United States over the weekend.

Kalu, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, emphasised the importance of backing the reforms, saying they are aimed at driving economic growth, stability, and development in Nigeria.

He said the president is an intentional leader whose leadership is focused on taking Nigeria in a specific direction through deliberate steps.

Acknowledging that leaders often face varied perceptions, the deputy speaker stressed that reformers continually seek learning and knowledge to entrench enduring legacies.

He said, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is an intentional, deliberate leader who knows the direction he is headed and is taking steps to take the country in that direction. That’s the truth. I say this without sounding political, and I would still say what I am saying even if I were not a ruling party member or in politics.

“You need to wear your unbiased lens to do your comparative analysis between now and before without sentiments, without trying to sound politically correct. Just view it, you will see. Reformers seek learning and knowledge. I know that once you are a leader, people will try to paint you with different brushes.”

Speaking on the reserved seats bill, the deputy speaker highlighted that the legislation he initiated is part of broader efforts to enhance inclusivity and representation in Nigeria’s development.

Kalu also noted that despite being outside the shores of Nigeria, Nigerians at Harvard and other parts of the world remain connected to their homeland and are committed to contributing to its betterment.

“What this bill seeks to do is to create a space for women. You are thinking of home, and it’s an advantage for Nigeria that those outside the shores of Nigeria have not forgotten Nigeria”, Kalu said.
