Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested 48-year-old man, Emmanuel George, for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl (name withheld) on Ada-George Road in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, said George, an indigene of Akwa Ibom State, had attacked his victim, who was on an errand for her aunt.

She said the suspect dragged the victim into a stationary tricycle, popularly called Keke NAPEP, tied her hands, covered her mouth to prevent her from raising an alarm, and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her before fleeing the scene.

According to her, the incident occurred on September 6, 2025, at about 1930hrs.

The suspect’s arrest was made by operatives attached to the CP Strike Force when they received a distress call that a 12-year-old girl (name withheld) who came to spend the holidays with her aunt at Mini Orlu, off Ada-George Road, Port Harcourt, had been defiled.

The police image maker, who issued a statement on the incident yesterday, said, “In a swift response, operatives were mobilised to the scene, and the victim was promptly taken to the Police Hospital, Port Harcourt, for medical treatment and examination. At about 2200hrs the same day, the suspect was apprehended through coordinated intelligence.”

The exhibits recovered at the scene included a bundle of rope suspected to have been used in tying the victim’s hand, one wrap of fufu and a blue tricycle.

Iringe-Koko said the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime during interrogation.

Adepoju urged parents and guardians to watch their children and wards closely, as predators are within our neighbourhood and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or other security agencies.
