The Katsina State Government has announced that 30 percent of all its development interventions are now dedicated to women, a landmark policy aimed at transforming the lives of women and children across the state.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Hadiza Yara’dua, stated this recently in Katstina, she described the measure as “a bold and practical step that moves beyond statistics to place women at the heart of governance and development.”

According to Yara’dua, the government has already rolled out programmes in education, health, protection, and economic empowerment designed to provide sustainable livelihoods and restore dignity to families rebuilding after years of insecurity.

“When women are empowered economically, entire families and communities benefit, and the seeds of resilience are firmly planted,” she said.

The commissioner emphasized that the administration has ended the era of handouts, focusing instead on financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and long-term income generation.

She pledged that the Ministry of Women Affairs will work closely with implementing partners to ensure the interventions reach those most in need and deliver lasting benefits even after the project concludes.

Quoting the Minister of Women Affairs, Yara’dua reminded the audience of the political weight of women’s participation: “Empower a woman and empower the nation; ignore the women and you lose elections.”

She expressed confidence that the initiative will deliver remarkable impact across the state, strengthening communities where women and children are safe, protected, and empowered to shape a brighter future.
