The Imo State Police Command has pledged to follow its rule of engagement to establish the purported invasion of the house of a businessman, Mr Kinsley Chijioke Offor, in Okigwe on April 16, 2025, by some of its officers.

The command’s public relations officer, Mr. Henry Okoye, told LEADERSHIP that as a responsible organisation that operates according to the rules of engagement, due process would be followed to establish the commission of the alleged offences and the officers involved.

The complainant (Offor) had written a petition to the Police Service Commission in Abuja, in which he claimed that on the said date, armed policemen from Tiger Base in Owerri, in connivance with Mr Policap Nnlemadin, a police officer attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) Owerri, raided his house at Cameroon Street, Ubahu Okigwe, at about 11 p.m. without notice/invitation.

He identified the police officers involved in the raid as Chidi Ibere Igwe, Mr. Adamu and the officer-in-charge (O/C), who instructed his boys, all of Tige Base, Owerri, to carry out the raid.

In the petition titled: “Complaint of Threat to Life, Intimidation, Stealing and Abuse of Power”, Offor, through his lawyer, Mr. David Okoro, accused the police officers of taking away N16 million belonging to him and his tenants in the six flats in his compound.

Offor also accused the officers of seizing two laptops owned by one of the tenants, land and equipment documents in a bag and a licensed pump-action gun.

He also claimed that his nursing wife was arrested and detained by the police officers for months.

According to the lawyer, “the traumatic event has endangered our client’s life, collapsed his business and forced him into hiding.”

Offor, therefore, in the petition which was received and acknowledged by the PSC on August 4, 2025, appealed to the commission to intervene by ordering “a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the invasion of his residence and theft, the return of the stolen cash and documents, and the assurance of my freedom and protection from further harassment.”

When contacted on Okoro’s allegations, Okoye (PPRO) said as a “responsible and responsive outfit, we have an operational manual, which is being followed procedurally.

“We work in accordance with our rules of engagement, and we follow the same procedure.”

He encouraged Nigerians to report such incidents to the appropriate authorities for prompt response.

Okoye said, “Things must be done appropriately and in line with the rules as this will enable prompt response.

“We will go through our records and find out if this incident was reported to the command and get back to you,” he told LEADERSHIP in Owerri.
