The Southern Kaduna Renaissance Front (SKRF) has urged a strategic political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, calling on stakeholders to consider forging stronger ties with the government at the federal level to guarantee greater development and political appointments for the region.

The call was made at the SKRF’s 2025 Young Persons Political Conference in Kaduna under the chairmanship of Dr Monday Barau Madaki.

The conference brought together young leaders, community representatives and stakeholders to deliberate on the theme, “Charting a Path to 2027: Alignment or Opposition to the Centre.”

The meeting, facilitated by Dr Philibus Nwamagyi Audu and Mr Luka Binniyat, discussed the pros and cons of aligning with the ruling centre, culminating in several key resolutions aimed at shaping the region’s political future.

Rejecting the popular perception of Southern Kaduna as a minority, the conference described the region as a socio-cultural entity comprising 12 local government areas – Kaduna South, Chikun, Kajuru, Kagarko, Kachia, Jaba, Zangon Kataf, Jema’a, Sanga, Kaura, Kauru and Lere – with an estimated population of 51.2 per cent of Kaduna State based on the 2006 census.

The group demanded the immediate adoption of a two-zone political structure in Kaduna State – North and South – for equitable distribution of political offices and governorship rotation. It condemned the existing three-zone arrangement, labelling it as an attempt to politically marginalise Southern Kaduna.

Highlighting the region’s critical role in the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015 and 2019 elections, the conference noted that Southern Kaduna contributed over 40 per cent of votes in 2015 and 30 per cent in 2019 toward the APC’s governorship and presidential victories in the state.

While appreciating federal and state government interventions, including strategic appointments and infrastructural projects such as the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, and the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan, the SKRF expressed dissatisfaction with the limited quality and quantity of state-level appointments under Governor Uba Sani’s administration, calling for an improvement ahead of 2027.

The conference was split on the choice between political alignment or opposition to the federal centre. However, the majority favoured strategic alliance to consolidate gains and advance the region’s development agenda.

It was recommended that all elected representatives from Southern Kaduna, including Senators and members of the House of Representatives, align with the centre for the benefit of their constituents.

The SKRF called on Southern Kaduna youths and politicians to contest governorship tickets of all major political parties in 2027 to ensure that the region produces at least one viable candidate for the state’s highest office.

The communiqué was signed by Comrade Sabastine Bahori Luka (Convener) and Pastor Jerome Waziri (Secretary), alongside other participants.
