The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State yesterday held congresses in 214 electoral wards in 25 local government areas of the state.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the distribution of election materials to local government returning officers at the party secretariat in Osogbo, the chairman, Ward Congress Committee from Abuja, Dr Samuel Omotosho, disclosed that ward executive members would be elected during the exercise.
“We are here to oversee congresses in 214 wards of Osun State for the purpose of electing ward delegates and ward executives.”
The positive trend of development in Osun State should not be truncated by any means, and that is why the national executive took steps to ensure there are no vacancies at the respective wards and make the party one,” he said.
According to him, the party was following the guidelines outlined in the constitution of the party to ensure a hitch-free democratic process in which every member of the party is involved in the emergence of party representation at all levels.
He attributed the conduct of congresses into only 214 wards of the 332 wards in the state to expiration of tenure of office of the wards concerned and inability to finish the congresses of some wards in 2023 in few cases.
Omotosho who expressed the need to consolidate the good works of Governor Ademola Adeleke, said, “Imole is here. PDP has shown that in the Southwest, things can be done better and Adeleke, a man of integrity, is putting smiles on the faces of the people of Osun State.
Also, the state party chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, called on all stakeholders to cooperate with the national delegation to ensure a peaceful, orderly and transparent process.
The elections remained hitch-free as at the time of filing this report as security operatives were on ground to avoid any attempt hoodlums might make to disrupt the exercise.
