Rivers State governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, on Sunday attended first church service after his reinstatement as governor with an appeal to the people of the state to intensify prayers for his administration as it began a fresh chapter of governance.

Fubara made the appeal while speaking during the 2025 harvest and thanksgiving service at Saint John’s Anglican Church, Opobo Town in Opobo/Nkoro local government area of the state.

The governor was accompanied to the service by his wife, Lady Valerie; the Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro local government area, Barrister James James among other stakeholders.

Addressing the congregation, Fubara emphasised that leadership demands not only human efforts but divine guidance, which can only be sustained through consistent prayers.

“We won’t have survived it without your prayers,” the governor said, likening the support he had received to deposits that yield interest in God’s time.

He explained that his decision to worship in Opobo was personal, describing the church as his spiritual home where he must return to give thanks before embarking on the next stage of service.

“When my story ends, it is this church that will lead me to my next set of journey,” Fubara said.

The governor stated that true thanksgiving goes beyond physical monuments but best expressed in sincerity and humility before God.

“This coming to worship here is necessary today,” he said, noting that the act was meant to be private but it inevitably drew public attention because of his office.

Fubara also acknowledged the sacrifices of fasting and intercession made on his behalf, insisting that those prayers had shielded him from shame and strengthened his resolve.

He called on Rivers people and Nigerians at large to continue supporting him with prayers, assuring that such spiritual backing was crucial to the success of his administration.
