Thirty-eight (38) suspects have been arrested by the Enugu State Police Command in connection with the killing of Rev. Fr. Matthew Eya.

Their arrest followed the directive by the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa who ordered operatives to intensify ongoing manhunt for the armed men who shot the cleric.

Police said the arrests of the suspects followed bush combing and raids of different black spots in the area.

The late priest was murdered in the night hours of 19th September, 2025, along Eha-Ndiagu Eha-Etiti Road in Eha-Alumona community of Nsukka local government area.

The Police Commissioner had earlier directed the Udenu Area Commander, alongside Heads of Tactical and Operational Squads of the Command to fish out the fleeing assailants upon receipt of information on the incident.
