Members of the 47th Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) reunited in Abuja at the weekend, three decades after beginning their military careers.

The three-day event, which commenced on Friday with special Juma’at prayers, featured a health walk, sporting activities, a medical talk, and the annual general meeting, before culminating in a reunion dinner and thanksgiving service on Sunday.

The health walk at Aguiyi Ironsi Cantonment drew participation from senior Army, Navy, and Air Force officers alongside their spouses. Notable attendees included the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, and the Naval Spokesperson, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu.

Chairman of the Central Organising Committee, Commodore Ahmad Madawaki, described the gathering as a long-awaited milestone. “We have looked forward to this for many years, and to the glory of God, it has become possible this year. It is heartwarming to see colleagues, families, and spouses gathered together,” he said, while paying tribute to fallen colleagues.

Speaking at the reunion dinner, Brig.-Gen. Nafiu, who also serves as president of the 47th Regular Course, said the event was a reminder of their roots, resilience, and sacrifice. He urged members to remain united, support one another, and mentor younger officers.

The highlight of the evening was the presence of former Chief of Defence Staff and ex-NDA Commandant, Air Marshal Al-Amin Dagash (Rtd), who served as Special Guest of Honour. He emphasized the need for principled and practical leadership to address Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

“In this age of multifaceted national and global threats, Nigeria needs leaders who do more than command. We need mentors who can inspire confidence, share lessons, and guide the next generation with integrity and courage,” he stated.

Dagash also commended the 47th Regular Course for honouring fallen colleagues, supporting widows, and upholding the ideals of comradeship and service.
