Jefferson-Wooden Completes World Sprint Treble With US Relay Win

Melissa Jefferson-Wooden made history by becoming only the second woman to achieve a world sprint treble, leading the United States to gold in the 4×100 metres relay yesterday, with Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce taking silver in her final race.

Jefferson-Wooden matched Fraser-Pryce’s 2013 achievement by adding to her 100m and 200m titles secured in Tokyo. She initiated the race in adverse weather conditions, handing off to teammate Twanisha Terry, followed by Kayla White, with Sha’Carri Richardson completing the relay in a time of 41.75 seconds.

“I did what I wanted to do individually and then came back together with my girls, my training partners, and we were all able to walk away with the gold medal,” Jefferson-Wooden stated.

Jamaica finished the race in 41.79 seconds, while Germany claimed bronze with a time of 41.87 seconds.

Fraser-Pryce concluded her illustrious career, having won three Olympic gold medals and ten world titles, expressing pride in passing the baton to the next generation.
