The National Assembly has postponed its resumption of plenary sessions, previously scheduled for Tuesday, September 23, 2025, to Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
The new resumption date was contained in a statement issued to journalists on Tuesday in Abuja, by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Barr. Kamoru Ogunlana, on behalf of the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“I am directed by the Presiding Officers of both Chambers of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to inform all members of the National Assembly and the general public that the resumption date of the National Assembly, earlier scheduled for Tuesday, 23rd September 2025, is hereby postponed to Tuesday, 7th October 2025,” the statement said.
While no specific reason was given for the postponement, the Clerk noted that committee activities will continue as planned.
“All Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members are requested to take note of the new date and adjust their schedules accordingly,” the statement added.
The Clerk also expressed the regret of the leadership over any inconvenience the change may cause to members and stakeholders.
The National Assembly had proceeded on its annual legislative recess in July, traditionally lasting two months.
While adjourning plenary on July 24, Senate President Godswill Akpabio directed ad hoc and standing committees to continue their work during the break.
He also urged senators to finalise pending reports and intensify oversight duties.
Similarly, the House of Representatives, which commenced its recess on Wednesday, July 23, encouraged lawmakers to utilise the period for constituency engagements, monitor federal projects, and address local issues within their jurisdictions.
The annual recess is a regular feature of the National Assembly’s legislative calendar, designed to allow lawmakers to balance their responsibilities at both national and constituency levels.
