Sokoto Government Suspends Collection Of Education Fees

Sokoto State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ladan Ala, has directed all principals of public secondary schools to immediately suspend collection of different education fees across the state.

This directive follows the setting up of a committee by the Commissioner to review concerns raised regarding fees charged in schools.

According to the commissioner, the suspension will remain in effect pending the outcome and recommendations of the committee.

Professor Ala emphasised that under no circumstances should any parent, guardian, or student for now, be asked to pay Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Levy, Admission Fee, Testimonial Fee, Statement of Result and MSS Fee.

The rest include Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) Statement of result/certificate, answer sheets, screening form, Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) fees and NECO/NABTEB/NBAIS Certificate fees.

According to a statement signed by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Mohammad Iya, on behalf of the Commissioner, “all principals are hereby advised to comply strictly with this directive.”

The directive warned that, “Any violation will attract immediate administrative action.”
