Sokoto State commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ladan Ala, has directed principals of public secondary schools in the state to suspend fee collection.

The directive followed the commissioner’s setting up of a committee to review concerns raised regarding school fees. The suspension will remain in place until the committee submits its recommendations.
Ala said under no circumstances should any parent, guardian, or student be asked to pay the following fees now: the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) levy, admission fee, testimonial fee, statement of results and MSS fee.

The rest are Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) statement of result/certificate, answer sheets, screening form, Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) fees and NECO/NABTEB/NBAIS certificate fees.

In a statement signed by the ministry’s public relations officer, Ibrahim Mohammad Iya, the commissioner said, “All principals are hereby advised to comply strictly with this directive. Any violation will attract immediate administrative action.”
