The Institut Français du Nigéria (IFN) has organised an Open Day in Abuja, where it provided residents with insights into its diverse offerings as a premiere centre for French language and Franco-Nigerian cultural exchange.

The event attracted students, parents, professionals, and culture enthusiasts who explored the institute’s facilities and programmes.

The head of the IFN Language Centre, Chika Oko, highlighted the importance of French language to Nigerians, particularly with the country being surrounded by Francophone countries.

“With Nigeria surrounded by Francophone nations, learning French is crucial for diplomacy, business, and education. Mastering the language provides a strategic advantage, as language is a gateway to culture.

Our curriculum not only teaches French but also immerses students in the rich cultural context associated with the language,” Oko stated.

Also at yesterday’s ceremony, the deputy director of IFN, Lucille Haddad, said the digital hub will feature monthly tech-oriented programmes, including VR experiences, video game masterclasses, and digital workshops.

Haddad said, “This platform aims to unite the entire IFN community, including students, partners like Ecoceder Solar and Ekòndò, and others engaged in environmental sustainability, culture, technology and education.

“The digital room facilitates connections among cultures, industries and individuals. We are creating a resource hub for both creatives and tech enthusiasts to explore, learn, and network. Our programming will be accessible through various channels, including social media, newsletters and WhatsApp groups,” Haddad said.

The Open Day transformed the institute from a formal institution into an accessible community space, reinforcing its role as a key player in strengthening the ties between Nigeria and the French-speaking world.
