Vice Chancellor of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, has stressed the need for global economies to employ models of development that are not only economically viable but also sustainable.

Speaking at the opening of an international conference on innovation and product exhibition organised by the university’s Department of Entrepreneurship Studies yesterday, the vice chancellor said sustainable models were key to addressing challenges such as climate change, food insecurity and declining natural resources confronting the various countries of the world.

He said the university held the vision of equipping students and staff with models driven by creativity, resilience and inclusive entrepreneurship.

“We are aligning our curricula to the demands of the 21st century, modernising infrastructure, deepening research and innovation culture and promoting partnerships between academia, industry, government, and civil society.

“These are not vague ambitions; they are measurable goals with visible early wins. Let us therefore reflect on how innovation and entrepreneurship are deeply interconnected with sustainability,” she said.

Keynote speaker I, Dr. Martyna Wronka-Pospiech from Poland and keynote speaker II, Suleiman Abubakar, the executive director of planning, Imani Group, charged upcoming entrepreneurs across the globe to leverage on the platform to stimulate business decisions and development in the various countries of the world.

The dean, Faculty of Administration, Prof. Abdullahi Zubairu, stated that the first international conference provided a platform for scholars and innovators to collaborate beyond their borders with ideas, insights, innovations and solutions.

He commended the department of Entrepreneurship Studies for coming up with the maiden edition of the  conference even as he urged participants to exchange knowledge for a prosperous, sustainable and more inclusive global economy.

The head, Department of Entrepreneurship Studies, Dr. Monica Agu, described the conference and exhibition as a unique platform where ideas are transformed into tangible products and where students, researchers and entrepreneurs showcase their ingenuity in addressing real-world challenges.

Chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the event and senior lecturer at the Entrepreneurship department, Dr. Vincent Paul, emphasised that current reality entrepreneurship must transcend profit-making and must embrace sustainability, inclusiveness and innovation to address urgent societal needs.
