The lawmaker representing Cross River North Senatorial District, Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, has dismissed criticism that followed the September 27, 2025, Cross River State Congress of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the exercise as legitimate.

Senator Jarigbe stated this while answering questions from journalists in Calabar, shortly after the conclusion of the 2025 state congress which re-elected Venatious Ikem as the state chairman of the PDP.

The federal lawmaker expressed confidence in the newly elected leaders of the party in the state, saying delegates have chosen competent individuals ahead of the 2027 elections.

Over 1,000 delegates from 18 local government areas participated in the congress, which was monitored by security agencies and the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He urged party members to unite and work towards regaining power in the state.
