A source in the area who spoke to our correspondent on phone, disclosed that the victims were attacked by the marauders while on their way back from a neighbouring community where they attended a traditional wedding ceremony.

“We heard gunshot and after a while, we rushed to the area and we saw these two young men’s lifeless bodies on the ground. Now that the security personnel are after the herders and bandits, they are now moving quietly in the bushes killing people on their farms or on the road after which they will flee back to their hideouts.

“The victims were shot and killed on the spot without provocation by the marauders. They were discovered by some community members who rushed to the scene after hearing the sounds of gunshots and after a while went to check what happened,” the source said.

He said the victims were rushed to General Hospital Katsina-Ala where they were confirmed dead on arrival.

“Their corpses are deposited in the hospital morgue”, he added.

Our correspondent reports that the incident came a week after the killing of over 16 security personnel at the Agu Centre in Katsina-Ala local government area of the state.

When contacted on phone, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Udeme Edet, who pledged to get back to our correspondent, did not answer calls made to her phone number.
