The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) in Taraba State has appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas to implement the 25/35% salary increase for staff of the State Polytechnic in Suntai to relieve the financial stress they have been facing.
The newly elected chairman of ASUP, Dr Bala Sule, who made the appeal while speaking to journalists at the Jalingo campus of the polytechnic, said that the government owes staff of the polytechnic outstanding salary arrears.
„As ASUP Chairman, I will do my best to navigate and get the attention of Governor Kefas to appeal to him to implement our 25/35% salary increase.
„Even our outstanding salary arrears will be tabled before him. We will let him know that putting staff in financial distress would not be healthy for members,“ he said.
He stressed that the institution under his leadership would not witness industrial action even if the government failed to address their demands.
„Under my watch, there will be no strike action of any form, even if the government fails to address our demands, we will pursue diplomacy to ensure that the government attend to us,“ he added.
He noted that the new leadership of ASUP in the institution would prioritise the welfare of all staff.
He added that, in the near future, he will dialogue with the national and zonal bodies of ASUP and visit Taraba State to see the governor and present the staff‘s demands to him.
