Police Arrest 3 Suspects Over Shooting At Students’ Election

Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested three persons and recovered a locally made pistol during the Student Union Government (SUG) election of the Ebonyi State University held at the College Of Agriculture (CAS) Campus of the university.

A statement signed by the police public relations officer, PPRO, SP Joshua Ukandu and made available to LEADERSHIP said that the three suspects were arrested in connection with an attempt to disrupt the announcement of the election results.

He noted that the incident occurred while the election results were being announced adding that the suspects allegedly fired a gunshot to disperse the crowd.

SP Ukandu said that unfortunately, the bullet shot by the suspects hit a student, who was immediately rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, for medical attention.

“Swift response by police operatives on ground led to the arrest of the following suspects; Lawrence Azubuike ‘m’, Ibe Kenneth ‘m’, Njoku Joshua ‘m’ and the recovery of a locally made pistol used in the act.

“The suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.”

He further stated that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Adaku Uche-Anya has also assured members of the public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace, law, and order across the state.
