Adewole Adebayo, the former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has said that there is Hope Amidst Challenges as Nigeria celebrates independence.
In a statement released to newsmen yesterday in Abuja, Adebayo emphasised that with a population that has grown significantly since gaining independence in 1960, and as a thriving creative industry, there is much to be proud of in the mix of challenges facing Nigeria today.
He stressed that despite the progress made, poverty remains a significant issue, with millions of Nigerians living below the poverty line and facing food insecurity, including banditry, insurgency, and communal violence, threatening the safety and livelihoods of millions of citizens.
Adebayo also said that the country’s infrastructure deficit hinders economic progress and development, particularly in the power sector and roads. Coupled with Corruption, this further compounds the challenges. Hence, draining resources that could be used to improve education, healthcare, and infrastructure needs urgent attention for the betterment of the people.
“It is clear that urgent action is needed to address these issues and pave the way for a brighter future for Nigeria.”
“As Nigeria marks another year of independence, the message is clear: there is hope amidst the challenges, and with determination and unity, the country can overcome its obstacles and fulfil its potential as a great nation,” he added.
