Association of Concerned Local Government Workers of Osun State has declared support for the ongoing implementation of local government autonomy in the state. It calls on workers in the service of local government across the state to resume work in their offices on Monday.

The association’s leadership, led by Comrade Adedayo Adekunle, at a press conference in Osogbo, described the prolonged strike led by the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) as unjustifiable and harmful.

“The strike has lasted over seven months. The excuse of insecurity is no longer tenable—there is peace across local government areas. We are the landlords of these secretariats, and it’s shameful that we’ve vacated our offices for rodents and reptiles,” Adekunle said.

He accused the current NULGE leadership in Osun State, led by Comrade Dr Nathaniel Kehinde Ogungbangbe, of acting unilaterally and ignoring workers’ welfare.

The association vowed to resist any misappropriation or misuse of the newly released local government funds, warning the recently reinstated All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmen and councillors to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.

However, in a statement signed by NULGE Publicity Secretary Comrade David Olalekan Owoeye and made available to newsmen in Osogbo, the union leadership faulted the resume work directive.

He contended that NULGE, under the leadership of Dr Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, has not directed local government workers to resume work, describing the directive as the handiwork of destiny killers.
