Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has begun taking steps to eliminate suspected moles from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) within his administration ahead of the 2027 re-election campaign. Since switching from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in June 2025, the governor has expressed concern about internal forces trying to undermine his authority.

At various events, Eno has spoken out against appointees who attend APC meetings during the day but secretly participate in PDP meetings at night.

“I am keeping tabs on them,” he said, revealing that he had planted spies to monitor disloyal appointees. He warned that he would take action against anyone found undermining his administration.

To assert control over his administration, the governor recently directed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prince Enobong Uwah, to dissolve all statutory Boards and Commissions.

This move is seen as a prelude to a larger cabinet shakeup.

A senior government official revealed that this purge is part of the governor’s efforts to appoint loyalists who will support his second-term bid.

During a speech at the Victor Attah International Airport, Eno emphasized the importance of loyalty to the APC and its national leadership. “We are united for progress and development. The broom of the Party will sweep away disunity and treachery,” he declared, as appointees rushed to declare their loyalty to the APC.
