A chieftain of the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi State, Rev. Gabriel Attai, has defected to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Speaking at his defection in Anyigba, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Attai said supporters of the party are tired of being used as pawns in the hands of politicians in the North Central state.

The former divisional chairman of the SDP in Dekina boasted that he has moved with the entire local government structure of his former party to the new one.

He described the move as a rejection of the old political order, where politicians often seek public support to attain power only to return later as oppressors rather than liberators of their followers.

“We are tired of being used as mere pawns in the game of politics. We want a new era of true liberation politics — where politicians serve the people, not themselves.

“We felt betrayed by the party leadership. They promised us change but delivered nothing but the same old politics.

“We are not just changing parties; we are changing the game. In the history of Kogi East politics, no party has ever recorded a victory this monumental,”Attai noted.

While receiving the new entrant into the party, the NNPP leader in Kogi, Hon. Umar Eniji expressed delight over the defection of Attai from SDP to NNPP.

“We are excited to have Hon. Rev. Attai on board. His courage, commitment to the people, and willingness to challenge the status quo perfectly align with our party’s values and mission.

“We are committed to serving the people and building a better future for all. With Hon. Rev. Attai’s experience and grassroots support, our movement will grow stronger and more effective,” Eniji said.
