Announcing the development at Tuesday’s plenary, Senate President Godswill Akpabio confirmed that the President has given his constitutional assent to the bill, officially creating a new legal framework for specialised police training institutions across the country.

“The Nigerian Police Force Training Institutions Establishment Bill 2025 amendment—so, further to our letter from the Clerk forwarding the authenticated copies of the bills for Mr. President’s constitutional assent, I hereby return two copies duly signed by Mr. President who has granted assent and seal of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Akpabio said.

He added that the new law “now establishes the Police Training Institutes in the various areas designated by the Nigerian Senate,” underscoring the government’s renewed commitment to professionalising law enforcement and strengthening internal security architecture.

The bill was first passed by the Senate in December 2024, after extensive deliberations on the need to improve police professionalism, modernise training infrastructure, and expand the capacity of security personnel across the federation.
