Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has unveiled the Lagos State Housing Estate, Ajara, Badagry Phase 1, which comprises 420 housing units.

In his address, Sanwo-Olu, who named the estate after Sunny Akinsanya Ajose, a former head of service in the state, said the state government “will keep strengthening partnerships that make housing more affordable and sustainable for everyone in Lagos.”

The governor noted that the event, which marked the commissioning of the 24th housing estate built by his administration, is “a major milestone on our path to creating Greater Lagos.”

Sanwo-Olu said that the new estate in Badagry is a testament to the government’s dedication to creating livable communities, adding: “It comes fully equipped with modern amenities — well-paved roads, a water treatment facility with both overhead and underground storage, an efficient drainage system, secure perimeter fencing, a gatehouse, a sewage treatment plant, ample parking spaces, walkways, and a comprehensive electrification network complete with transformers.

“Badagry has reaped the benefits of targeted investments in road infrastructure, public hospitals, schools, and other vital facilities.” These initiatives, he added, have opened up this historic town to the world, positioning it as a rising hotspot for eco-tourism, culture, and commerce.

“This project has created over 1,300 jobs, both directly and indirectly, during its construction phase. After wholly occupying everything, even more jobs will come from managing the facilities and other estate services.

“In the past six years, we have successfully rolled out 23 housing estates, creating over 10,000 homes for people across all income levels—low, middle, and high—throughout the five divisions of Lagos.

“As we near the end of this administration, our commitment to closing the housing gap remains strong, focusing on smart infrastructure investments that push development beyond just the city centre.”

He added: “We are also working to complete four additional housing schemes across the state, which are at various stages of completion: Lagos State Housing Estate, Ibeshe Phase II (192 units), Egan–Igando Mixed Housing Scheme, Clusters 2 & 3 (587 units), Epe Housing Scheme, Ita Marun (112 units), LagosHOMS Sangotedo Phase II, Eti-Osa (524 units)

Each of these developments highlights our strong belief that every Lagosian deserves a place they can truly call home, no matter where they live or their income level.”

Also at the event, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, the state Commissioner for Housing, said the Housing Estate is “another milestone in the state’s collective journey towards increasing the quantum of modern, affordable, and sustainable housing for the good people of Lagos State.”

He added that the Lagos State Housing Estate Ajara, with its 420 modern home units, is a bold testament to the state’s vision and the Sanwo-Olu administration’s expected deliverables in realising the goals under the T.H.E.E.E.S Plus Agenda.
