The Gwong Development Association (GDA) has condemned the spate of killings, destruction of farms and damage to property allegedly being carried out by Fulani herdsmen in parts of Gwong Land, particularly in Tanda, Asso District in Kaduna State.

In a statement issued signed by its president, Prof. I. K. Auta yesterday, the association described the attacks as “barbaric and senseless,” lamenting that they had left deep scars on the people through bereavement, displacement and the destruction of livelihoods.

“These acts of violence have caused immense suffering, loss of innocent lives and severe economic hardship. Farms that form the backbone of our local economy have been ravaged, worsening food insecurity and pushing residents into deeper poverty,”Auta said.
The GDA warned residents against taking the law into their own hands, urging restraint and calm amid growing anger.

“Retaliation or extrajudicial actions will only escalate conflict, deepen divisions, and undermine efforts toward lasting peace and justice,” the statement added.

The association appealed to citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and prioritise dialogue and peaceful coexistence, noting that peacebuilding required unity and collective effort.
Calling for urgent government intervention, the GDA demanded immediate and decisive measures from federal, state, and local authorities to halt the violence.

“The government must ensure a stronger security presence, support victims, and prosecute those responsible. Addressing the root causes of these conflicts through dialogue and development is key to lasting peace,” it stated.
