With 20 days to the Sports Writer’s Association of Nigeria 60th Anniversary celebration, Smart and Trusted Business Group has thrown its weight behind the association.
The epoch Diamond Jubilee event is scheduled for October 29-31, 2025.
Chairman of Smart and Trusted Business Group, High Chief (Dr) Willams Chibuike Nwobo made the pledge during a courtesy visit by the National Executive Committee (NEC) and Local Organising Committee (LOC) on his office in Abuja.
Chief Williams Nwobo pledged his support towards the forthcoming programme, saying that the LOC can count on him and his group for adequate support towards the success of the event.
”You can be assured that we will support you to succeed. I sincerely appreciate the planners of the event for finding me worthy and recognizing what I do in my little corner. I never knew anyone was watching. I only contributing my quota to the community that raised me. I am most grateful for this,” Chief Nwobo added.
The real estate mogul who is the sponsor of the annual Unity Cup in Ebonyi state, described sports as a unifying factor hence he uses the game of football to unify various communities in Ebonyi.
”I must solidly say that sports is one thing that unites the nation. And I believe that even when there is war, sports activities still take place and that is why we see sports as the only means to unite our youth. Sports is the only activity that brings people of different tribes or religion and you see them speak in one voice,” he said.
Earlier, the Secretary-General of SWAN, Ambassador Ikenna Okonkwo, disclosed that following the contribution of Chief Nwobo in the state through sports, the association has singled him out for an award.
LOC Chairman, Mr. Ben Ogbemudia, noted that the award is not just to appreciate him for his contribution so far but to also spur him to do more.
National Financial Secretary of SWAN, Mrs Ijeoma Peter-Nwante, thanked Chief Nwobo for his kind gesture and urged him not to relent in his promotion of peace in Ebonyi state through sports.
Assistant Secretary of FCT chapter, Friday Joshua and Emmanuel Fashemi of Radio Nigeria were part of the delegates at the courtesy visit.
