Sokoto Youths Pass Confidence Vote On Gov Aliyu

The Sokoto Youth Emancipation Frontier (SYEF) has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Aliyu and expressed concern over what it describes as “a growing wave of sponsored media attacks” targeting the Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto and interfering with the government effort in the fight against insecurity in the State.

In a statement issued in Sokoto and signed by its spokesperson, Comrade Hamisu Sani, the group said it has resolved to support Governor Aliyu in 2027 general election to consolidate his efforts in providing good governance and his relentless effort in the fight against insecurity in the State.

The group also said that it was shocked by the “desperate and ill-motivated attempts” by certain political actors to discredit the governor and undermine his genuine efforts to reposition the state.

According to SYEF, the recent surge in negative commentaries, especially on some radio stations against the Gov. Aliyu administration, is not only politically driven but also dangerous, given the sensitive nature of the issues being manipulated. The group particularly condemned the use of insecurity as a political weapon, describing it as “a new low” in the state’s political discourse.

“It is rather disheartening that some politicians, who by their actions are already signalling their interest to govern this state, are shamelessly politicising insecurity,” the statement read. “They are attempting to score cheap political points at the expense of the safety and unity of our people. This is not only irresponsible but unpatriotic.”

Comrade Sani noted that Governor Ahmed Aliyu has, since assuming office, demonstrated unprecedented commitment to the protection of lives and property across Sokoto State. He cited several strategic interventions by the current administration, including strengthened collaboration with security agencies, improved surveillance in border communities, and renewed engagement with traditional and religious leaders to address the root causes of insecurity.

“Governor Aliyu’s hands-on approach to governance and his quiet but result-oriented engagement with security stakeholders have yielded visible progress in many fronts,” Sani said. “From the rehabilitation of critical infrastructure to prompt support for security formations and the welfare of displaced persons, the government has proven that it prioritises the people above politics.”

The group also reminded political actors that the period for political campaigns and electioneering has not yet been declared open by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). It therefore urged them to exercise restraint and focus instead on constructive contributions to governance.

“In any case, the embargo on political electioneering is yet to be lifted,” SYEF emphasised. “We therefore call on these desperate politicians to wait for the appropriate time to challenge Gov. Aliyu’s good works at the polls rather than resorting to blackmail and character assassination through sponsored media publications.”

While reaffirming its confidence in the leadership of the governor, SYEF lauded his inclusive development approach, youth empowerment initiatives, and commitment to transparency. The group pledged continued support to the administration and expressed optimism that Sokoto State would witness greater transformation under his stewardship.

“We, the Sokoto Youth Emancipation Frontier, pass a vote of confidence on Gov. Aliyu’s administration,” the statement concluded. “We are proud of the steady progress being recorded in governance, security, and social welfare. Those who wish to lead should learn to build, not destroy. The future of Sokoto state belongs to those who can rise above bitterness and work for the collective good.” the statement concluded.
