NUJ President Calls For Factual, Balanced Reporting

Media practitioners in Nigeria have been tasked on factual and balanced reportage of events and happenings for good governance and development.

The national president of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Abdullahi Yahya,  who was in Jalingo the Taraba State capital for a three-day official visit, stressed the need for professionalism in their conduct.

The NUJ national president, was in Jalingo, along with the deputy national president of the union, Dr Abimbola Oyetunde and some national officers for the working visit.

Yahya, who was received at the Danbaba Suntai Airport by the union’s chairman in Taraba State, Comrade Matthew Jen, had an interactive session with Governor Agbu Kefas on a range of issues bordering on the welfare of journalists and the need for professionalism in their conduct.

“My visit was part of an engagement tour to strengthen ties with journalists across the country and to witness firsthand the transformation taking place under the Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas.

“I have been hearing about Governor Kefas and the remarkable projects his government has embarked upon. Now that I am here, I can see visible signs of progress, especially in the area of infrastructure.

“It is our hope and prayer that the governor sustains this tempo so that the aims of his administration will be fully actualised,” he said.

Comrade Yahaya commended the Taraba State Council of NUJ for their resilience and professionalism, despite the numerous challenges facing the journalism profession.

He urged journalists in the state to continue upholding the ethics of the profession by ensuring balanced and factual reporting.

He reminded journalists that the media has a vital role in promoting good governance and development in the country.

“I must commend the Taraba NUJ for their steadfastness in the face of challenges. Your commitment to truth and fairness is commendable. Keep up the good work”.

The NUJ president is expected to embark on an inspection tour of some of the projects executed by Governor Agbu Kefas’ administration during his time in Jalingo.
