The Ogun State government has disclosed that it is partnering with two Renewable Energy Service Companies (RESCOs) to generate about 1,100 Megawatts of solar electricity to strengthen the state’s industrial base.

The state government, in a statement issued yesterday in Abeokuta, the state capital, by the Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Media & Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, said the RESCOs will establish two different solar panel manufacturing plants with capacities of 600 and 500 MW, respectively, with the potential to expand to 1GW.

Akinmade’s statement revealed that Ogun State sealed the partnership under the watchful supervision of Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima during the two-day Nigeria Renewable Energy Innovation Forum (NREIF) 2025, which ended on Wednesday in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to Akinmade, the forum was convened under the Federal Ministry of Power and co-organised with the United Nations Development Programme(UNDP), the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), and the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE), with Vice-President Kashim Shettima as Chairman for the year 2025.

According to the statement, the forum, with the theme “Implementing the Nigeria first policy: Facilitating Local Content Development and Manufacturing in the Renewable Energy Ecosystem NREIF2025,” is Nigeria’s premier platform to shape the future of renewable energy manufacturing by bringing together global leaders, investors, and policy makers, among others.

“These partnerships will ultimately spotlight Ogun state as a leader in innovation, industrial readiness and inclusive growth, while affirming our state’s commitment to economic diversification and environmental sustainability.
