A political party, National Rescue Movement (NRM) has joined millions of Nigerians at home and abroad in mourning the passing of elder statesman, diplomat, industrialist and moral beacon, Dr Christopher Kolade.

In a statement released by the party’s national publicity secretary, Peter Letsuwa, the NRM’s National Management Committee (NMC), National Executive Committee (NEC) and its members, under the leadership of Prince Chinedu Obi (Ohamadike), expressed sorrow over the loss of a man he described as “an institution” and a symbol of integrity and service.

“Pa Kolade was not merely a man; he was an institution, a living embodiment of integrity, service, and excellence,” the statement read. “In a nation often yearning for role models, he stood as a towering beacon of what Nigeria can produce at its best.

“Pa Kolade’s illustrious career spanned education, business, diplomacy, and public service. As a teacher, he was praised for shaping young minds.

At the helm of Cadbury Nigeria, he demonstrated that ethical leadership and corporate success could coexist, setting standards in governance still revered today. His tenure as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom earned him respect on the global stage, where he was recognised for his dignity, intellect, and diplomatic skill.

“Often working behind the scenes, Kolade’s philanthropic efforts quietly transformed lives and communities, further cementing his legacy as a compassionate and principled leader.

“To the political class, Kolade served as a rare moral compass. “In an era where public trust is fragile, his life was a constant reminder that politics is ultimately about service, not self-aggrandisement,” the NRM noted.

The party said it draws direct inspiration from Kolade’s lifelong commitment to good governance, accountability, and selfless service, which are at the core of the NRM’s ideology.

While mourning the national loss, the NRM urged Nigerians to honour Kolade’s legacy not only in words but in actions by recommitting to the principles he stood for: integrity, hard work, and patriotic service.

“We urge the government and all well-meaning Nigerians to immortalize his legacy by nurturing a new generation of leaders in his mould,” the statement added.
