‘David’, an animation feature film about the life of a biblical figure after God’s own heart, will be released on December 19, 2025, during the Christmas season.
Directed by Phil Cunningham, the animation musical-drama, trails David, a shepherd boy who rose from the dry deserts of his hometown Bethlehem, to Israel’s palace, as his journey unites the nation’s tribes, proving that the greatest strength lies in trust (in God) and not in power.
It casts Phil Wickham as David, Brandon Engman as Young David, Brian Stivale as Samuel the Prophet, Kamran Nikhad as Goliath, Asim Chaudhry as King Achish, among others.
Initially, a project developed by Slingshot USA with Angel Studios, a legal dispute between the two saw the former terminate the deal, citing incurable contract breaches. The animation is being released as a result of a partnership between Angel Studio and 2521 Entertainment.
The partners paid $78 million for the IP with Angel Studios portion of the investment at about $31 million in cash.
Fans of the animation who have followed it since its crowdfunding days three years ago are excited.
“It is the best-looking biblical animated feature since Prince of Egypt. Very high-quality animation,” said @moorsy.
“So beautiful. As a founder of Angel, this is why we started this company to tell stories like this.
“I must have watched the trailer a hundred times. I’ve never been so excited for a movie. Please release David internationally (especially in Australia), and market the heck out of it! As a Gen Z, this is the kind of Christian content we’ve been craving, and I can’t wait for the whole world to know that it’s coming!!” said @Jesica-Pendragon.
