The attack, which occurred this Friday evening, created apprehension as residents could not believe a brazen attack on a security facility and operatives.

Am eyewitness, who spoke with journalists on the condition of anonymity, said the gunmen came to the police station and started shooting sporadically to scare passerbys and neighbouring residents with the intention of freeing some of the detained vandals in the Police station from Kachia town.

“They thought that the suspects were being detained at the Zonkwa Police Station, only to discover after the attack that they were not there,” said a security source who confirmed the attack.

Efforts to get the reaction of the Kaduna State Police Command through its Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Hassan Munsir, was not successful as at the time of filing this report, just as the identities of the officers killed could not be ascertained also.

There was no official statement by Kaduna State government, and neither was there any from the local government area as at press time on Friday.
