Former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has commended High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, for his significant contributions to peace and stability in the Niger Delta, as well as the protection of Nigeria’s oil industry.
Jonathan gave the commendation yesterday when Tompolo, chairman of Tantita Security Services Limited, paid him a visit at his Otuoke residence in Ogbia local government area of Bayelsa State.
The meeting, which lasted about an hour, was held behind closed doors.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Jonathan said the discussion was at his instance and focused on issues of mutual concern, especially regarding security and peace in the Niger Delta region.
He noted that some complaints had recently emerged from certain quarters, prompting him to invite Tompolo for dialogue to sustain harmony in the area.
The former president described Tompolo as a key figure in maintaining unity and stability across the region.
He said, “Tompolo has been one young man who has played a key role in the unity of our people. Today’s meeting is because he has been handling security issues in the Niger Delta, and I felt it was important for us to have a conversation to ensure the region remains peaceful.”
Jonathan further recalled his past engagements with Tompolo during his time as vice president, noting that his visit to Tompolo’s camp years ago was instrumental in restoring peace to the troubled oil-producing region.
“I appreciate his visit.
Tompolo has contributed significantly to the peace in the Niger Delta and the security of the oil industry. His role has been vital in ensuring that the region remains stable for national development,” he added.
Tompolo was accompanied by the managing director of Tantita Security Services Limited, Engr. Kestin Pondi and other top officials, including Joshua Maciver.
The visit was described as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation towards sustaining peace and development in the Niger Delta.
