Nottingham Forest Sack Ange Postecoglou After 40 Days Amid Poor Run

Nottingham Forest has sacked Ange Postecoglou as head coach after only 40 days in charge, following a crushing 3-0 loss to Chelsea on Saturday.

The club announced the decision on social media, citing a string of disappointing performances and results, but opted not to provide further details at this time.

Postecoglou was appointed on September 9, arriving as the clear choice of Forest’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, following the acrimonious exit of former boss Nuno Espírito Santo.

However, the Australian coach failed to secure a single win across eight games, leaving the team hovering just one point and a place above the Premier League relegation zone.

His tenure now stands as the shortest in Premier League history, overtaking the previous 41-day record held by Les Reed with Charlton in 2006. In addition, Postecoglou managed only five league matches, the second-fewest by any Premier League manager just one more than Frank de Boer’s brief stint at Crystal Palace in 2017.

Postecoglou’s tenure began harshly with a 3-0 loss at Arsenal and was marked by a Carabao Cup heartbreaker where Forest blew a 2-0 halftime lead against Swansea, conceding two goals in added time. The team then secured a 1-1 draw at Burnley, and a 2-2 Europa League draw seen Real Betis equalise late. This promising moment slipped away as Forest endured four consecutive defeats: home losses to Sunderland and Midtjylland followed by away defeats at Newcastle and Chelsea.

The club now faces an urgent search for a new manager as it battles to avoid the drop zone in a challenging Premier League campaign.
