Chairman of the Niger state Independent Electoral Commission Eng. Mohammed Jibrin Imam has disclosed that the commission has secured financial autonomy as contained in all the enabling laws.
He stated this yesterday in Minna while declaring open a workshop for electoral officers from local government areas and senior officers of the commission ahead of the council elections next month.
“The governor of Niger State in sustaining the tempo of democratic reforms and his continued commitment to strengthening the institutions of governance at the grassroots directed that implementation of financial allocations to the commission be placed on first line charge in line with the enabling laws to that effect,” he said.
Imam said the act had reinforced the independence and operational efficiency of the commission, adding that by that, credible election is invariably assured.
According to him credible elections would not happen by chance but by planning, training, discipline and integrity.
He urged the electoral officers to ensure that the forthcoming local government election becomes a model of excellence.
