He stated, “It is with profound humility and immense joy that I join the global community in celebrating your remarkable 91st birthday. You are a revered father figure, a beacon of peace to millions of Nigerians, and an iconic statesman whose life and legacy inspire transformative leadership and national cohesion.
Your steadfast commitment to a united and peaceful Nigeria has left an indelible mark on our nation’s history.”
Governor Mutfwang extolled General Gowon’s remarkable leadership during one of Nigeria’s most turbulent periods, commending his wisdom, patriotism, and diplomatic finesse.
The statement also noted that General Gowon navigated the nation through challenging times as the Military Head of State and ensured its survival as one indivisible entity.
The Governor recalled that General Gowon’s post-civil war declaration of “No Victor, No Vanquished” remains an enduring testament to his spirit of reconciliation and national healing.
He said the implementation of the famous Reconciliation, Reconstruction, and Rehabilitation programme was instrumental in rebuilding Nigeria’s socio-economic fabric and rekindling the spirit of unity among her people.
Mutfwang further commended the elder statesman for his humility, integrity, and compassion, which have earned him global respect and admiration.
He emphasised that General Gowon’s legacy transcends politics and continues to enrich humanity as a proud son of Plateau, a true patriot, and a respected international figure.
On behalf of his family, the government, and the good people of Plateau State, Governor Mutfwang warmly felicitates with General Gowon, praying that God grants him continued good health, divine grace, and fulfilment as he remains a guiding light and mentor to younger generations in the noble task of nation-building.
